Practical 4

Practical 4

It's practical time!!! Hi guys, welcome back to the blog. As you can see here, we had our last practical session of the semester this week, and boy oh boy was it amusing. So the objective of this practical was to create a fun product, sort of a game I would say made of cardboard and each one of our products was to be judged by a bunch of primary three students. The end goal was to entice the students with our products and get them to vote for the best one out of all the groups. It wasn't a walk in the park as we had to immerse ourselves in the shoes of primary three students to sort of grasp their perspective on the things that they find entertaining.

Preparation

We were given one week prior to the practical session to decide on our desired product with the dimensions and the types of cardboard joineries being factored into consideration. Initially, we had a bunch of ideas, for instance, we thought of making a cardboard maze at first.

But we weren't satisfied with the idea and shifted to a new one which was to create a crossbow and a range. There were different variations of how we wanted the crossbow to be for instance,

Variation 1

Variation 2

We decided to stick to the second variation at the end. For our range on the other hand, we wanted to turn it up a notch by making it spin with the use of a motor in hopes of making it slightly exhilarating for the students to play with. The deciding process came to a halt and we moved on to the dimensions of the range and crossbow.

Dimensions:

This is how the preparation process for our product went about. You might be wondering how does this whole setup works. Well, the mechanism of our product is fairly simple. The gun-like crossbow shoots the projectile at the range and the range is the target that should be aimed at. Simple isn't it.

Practical Session

On the day of the practical itself, we were given 2 hours to construct our product. We separated into two groups. Willie and I, we were in charge of making the crossbow gun whereas Hendrik and Amal were in charge of making the range. This is how the process went by:

The time was eventually extended as none of the groups were able to finish their respective products by the end of the 2-hour mark. As we touched up and made some final adjustments to our product we reached the end of the extra time given and walla!! our product was finally all ready and set to be presented. Willie represented our team and presented the product Magnifique to the class.
This is how our end product looked like:

Here's a glimpse of how our product worked:

Well, that's how the last practical of the semester went. We had an absolute blast. That's all for it today till then see you guys next time byeeee!!!!!!!
